Our English corner!



The English language around the world

There are many countries in the world where people speak English as mother tongue or as a second language.  These countries, apart from England and the United Kingdom, are Canada, the USA, India, some African countries, Australia, etc.




The Queens of England

The Queens that turned England into a powerful country and spread the English language were:

Queen Elizabeth I (1533-1603).  She was a Queen for 45 years.  She was called the "Virgin Queen" because she never married, she was devoted to her country.  During her reign England became a powerful and strong country.  She was educated and spoke 5 languages.  She loved the arts.  Shakespeare lived at that period.







Queen Victoria (1819-1901).  She was a Queen for 63 years and her time was called the Victorian Age.  She sent her ships all over the world and became the Queen of the United Kingdom, Ireland, India, Canada, Australia, of African countries, etc.  She loved her husband very much and when he died, she put his statues all over London.









Queen Elizabeth II (1926-).  She is the Queen of 16 countries all over the world and of 129 million citizens.









 Famous British writers


                                                         
Jane Austen is a famous writer of the English literature. Some of her novels are "Emma", "Pride and Prejudice", "Sense and Sensibility", etc.
               

Oscar Wilde is a famous Irish writer.  He wrote "The Picture of Dorian Gray",
" The Importance of being Earnest", "The selfish giant".
