Pen pals from Poland

The students of the 5th class are going to start Pen Pal communication with students of the same age from Poland.  This is some information about the country of Poland and the town where the Polish students live in, Brodnica.

Παρακάτω σας δίνονται μια σειρά από ασκήσεις σχετικά με τον Present Simple.

E-mail to an Irish friend

These are some very good essays that students of the 5th grade wrote answering to an e-mail from an Irish friend:

    I'm sending you this e-mail just to say hello.

    In my free time I like reading books, playing games such as footbal  and volleyball, or playing with my friends.  Also, I prefer riding my bike to painting.  I enjoy the summer, the ice cream and I prefer the sun to rain.

    It's Saturday afternoon and I'm at home answering my e-mails.  I always check my e-mails when I finish my homework.
    I have many friends around Greece.  We use the Internet to find information and play computer games.  I like playing football with my friends.  I don't like doing puzzles with my brother.  Do you do the same in Ireland?

    I and my friends use the Internet.  When I and my friends get back from school we use the Internet to send e-mails, to find information, to listen to music, especially at the weekends.  Do you do the same in Ireland?

A.    Use (πού χρησιμοποιείται ο Present Simple)

Ο Present Simple χρησιμοποιείται για πράξεις που περιγράφουν:

  1. συνήθειες (habits) δηλαδή κάτι που γίνεται τακτικά
ex. I play football every Saturday

  1. γενικές αλήθειες
ex. The Earth goes round the Sun.

  1. κάποια μόνιμη κατάσταση
ex. He works in a bank.

B.    Form (Σχηματισμός)

  1. Affirmative (Κατάφαση)
Η κατάφαση του Present Simple κλίνεται με τα πρόσωπα I, you, we, you, they και μετά ακολουθεί το κύριο ρήμα χωρίς καμία κατάληξη.  Για τα υπόλοιπα πρόσωπα he, she, it το ρήμα παίρνει την κατάληξη s.

                   ex. I work     αλλά     He works.

Ø      Exercise 1: Συμπλήρωσε τον παρακάτω πίνακα κλίνοντας τα ρήματα play και live στην κατάφαση του Present Simple.

  1. Spelling Rules (Κανόνες Ορθογραφίας)

a. Στα ρήματα που τελειώνουν σε ss, -ch, -sh, -x και o προσθέτουμε την κατάληξη 
     –es.

     ex.  I dress – he dresses           I wash – she washes          I go – it goes
            I teach – he teaches          I mix – she mixes

Ø      Exercise 2: Κλίνε τα ρήματα teach, wash και go στην κατάφαση του Present Simple.

  1. Question (Ερώτηση)

Η ερώτηση σχηματίζεται αν βάλουμε το βοηθητικό ρήμα do πριν το υποκείμενο (subject) και το κύριο ρήμα.  Για το 3ο ενικό πρόσωπο (he, she, it) το do αλλάζει σε does και φεύγει η κατάληξη από το κύριο ρήμα.  Η απάντηση σχηματίζεται με το πρόσωπο που ρωτάει και τα do/does και dont/ doesnt.

  1. Negative (Άρνηση)

Η άρνηση σχηματίζεται αν βάλουμε το βοηθητικό ρήμα do not πριν από το κύριο ρήμα.  Και πάλι στο 3ο ενικό πρόσωπο (he, she, it) το do not αλλάζει σε does not και φεύγει η κατάληξη από το κύριο ρήμα.  Σύντομος τύπος: do not – don’t,  does not – doesn’t

  1. Adverbs of Frequency (Επιρρήματα συχνότητας) and Time Expressions (Χρονικές εκφράσεις)

1.      Adverbs of frequency

Με τον Present Simple χρησιμοποιούμε επιρρήματα συχνότητας (adverbs of frequency) για να περιγράψουμε πόσο συχνά γίνεται κάτι.  Τα adverbs of frequency μπαίνουν πριν το κύριο ρήμα.

always   usually    often     sometimes     never

ex. I always eat breakfast.
     He never goes to parties.
     Do you often play basketball?
     She doesn’t usually walk to school.

2.      Time Expressions

Υπάρχουν κάποιες χρονικές εκφράσεις (Time Expressions) που χρησιμοποιούμε σε προτάσεις με τον Present Simple και μπαίνουν στην αρχή ή στο τέλος των προτάσεων.

every day / every month / every week / every year
in the morning / in the afternoon / in the evening / at night
once a week / twice a week / three times a week
in the summer / in the winter
on Mondays / on Thursdays / at the weekend

ex. They go to school every day.   αλλά και      Every day they go to school.
